Selectively Lawless
True Story of Emmett Long an American Original
In the early twentieth century, money, power, and reputation were king. With outlaws like Pretty Boy Floyd and Baby Face Nelson roaming the streets, it was a lawless time, with lawless individuals taking their fates and fortunes into their own hands. Emmett Long was one of them. Bank robber, moonshiner, gambler, and on occasion even a killer, he made his own rules.

This was a very entertaining read. My family goes back many generations with the Long family so some of the story came as no surprise. I was too young to know the moonshiner Emmet but I did get to spend time with the New Mexico Emmitt. Plus my great grandfather had tales of helping to count the pillow case money at different times. Thank you for writing this.

I am the oldest sister of Asa Dunnington. My brother has always been a good writer. He wrote for the high school football games. He has always had a terrific memory. Those are the gifts God has given him. I read his book, Selectively Lawless. It is very well written. I could hardly put it down. I am going to read it again. It is that good. Anyone would enjoy reading it. My sister and I are so blessed to have him for our brother.

Really enjoyed this book. Asa has a great writing style and the story is just amazing. The fact that the story is more or less a biography of a relative makes it even more fascinating. An easy read that keeps your interest all the way through. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it.

I started this book on my vacation and couldn’t put it down. Emmett Long’s journey through life was a tumultuous, exciting and sometimes scary journey. Asa Dunnington did an excellent job of drawing us into this man’s life. Rarely do I say this but I sure hope this becomes a movie! I’ll definitely pay to see it.
